Dawes Street Wise

A city tourer converted into an audax bike

About This Bike

From the 1990s catalogue:

The Street Wise is definitely hot in the city. The touring frame’s constructed by hand with Reynolds 501 butted main tubes and Unicrown forks. A Street Wise choice of lightweight components include Shimano Exage 300 LX 21-speed transmission with STI levers; Hyperglide and Superglide functions; Biopace chainrings and slar brakes. Pain work is a ping green split and a ladies open frame version is available. Get Street Wise and ease on down the road.

Updates

Added a Tortec Ultralite 560g pannier rack

  • New front brake

Replaced front cantilever with a newer less complicated Shimano CX-50. Increases braking power and adds the feature of a quick release so I don’t have to deflate the tyre when removing the wheel. Try as I did to move away from the cantilevers I had to move back. Now the front and rear are Shimano CX-50 which I have found remarkably easier to set up than the older model.
